Stansbury? Where is that?

Stansbury is a charming coastal town on the Southern Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, approximately 195 kilometres from Adelaide.

With its relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, Stansbury is the perfect destination for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a peaceful getaway by the sea. It is centrally located between the coastal towns of Port Vincent and Edithburgh and the inland townships of Yorketown and Minlaton. It is also centrally located between the Innes National Park to the south and the Copper Coast to the North making it the perfect base to explore the area.

One of the biggest draws of Stansbury is the water. The sandy beach and calm waters of Oyster Bay are ideal for beach activities, swimming and water skiing. And it is an incredibly popular fishing destination, whether from a boat, jetty or the shore. (Stansbury features an all-tide, two-lane boat ramp and large jetty). Popular seasonal catches include King George whiting, garfish, mullet, Tommies and squid. Blue Swimmer Crabs can be raked from the shallows (in season) or netted from the jetty or boat. The oyster farms supply fresh, locally-produced oysters straight from the sea when in season, so watch for signs.

In addition to its beautiful beaches, Stansbury is home to various walking trails and scenic drives. The Stansbury Foreshore Walking Trail is a must-visit for anyone who loves a leisurely stroll with stunning ocean views. A 7 km road trip it is a relatively easy walk and perfect for those that enjoy the coastline, bird watching and native flora. Stansbury also is a stopping point on the famous Walk the Yorke trail. The walk from Port Vincent to Stansbury is actually one of the shortest sections of the walk.

If you're interested in history, be sure to visit the Stansbury Museum, which offers a fascinating glimpse into the town's past. The museum houses a collection of artifacts and exhibits that tell the story of Stansbury and its people, from its indigenous beginnings to its role as a wool port. Further afield you can visit the Bublacowie Military Museum, a private museum with an amazing collection of military memorabilia.

For foodies, Stansbury is a great place to sample some of the freshest seafood in South Australia. The town is known for its oysters, which are harvested locally and sold at the Farm Gates or you can also enjoy a delicious plate of Oysters at the local Dalrymple Hotel. Plus make sure to check out the Deckie for a Day experience offered by Pacific Estate Oysters. It is an incredible experience.

The award-winning Stansbury Seaside Markets are held once a month on Saturdays from October to April. With a large number of local artisans, crafts and food on display they are not to be missed.

Overall, Stansbury is a hidden gem on the Yorke Peninsula that is well worth a visit. With its beautiful beaches, scenic walks, rich history, and delicious seafood, this charming town has something to offer everyone.
